A gift for :iconmlang:
Really late, but I absolutely felt like doing her Manami with my Liquid watercolors. I guess I wanted to paint the strong, dark colors of her design, so there you are.

I took some artistic freedom with her dress (because shoulders are sexy!), as well as with the hair and tried to get an understanding of how her hairdo works... I kinda like the result. :]

URGH. Painting a person and details with my liquid watercolors was a pain, because the watercolor would morph and move all over the picture during drying and... urgh. it's alright for backgrounds but I shall not try it on details anymore!

About the Character:

This is Manami, the Girlfriend of ~mlang 's Sho from our SNT RP. I guess 90% of you probably thought now that she's a geisha but she's not... not quite at least, she works at a teahouse/brothel thing. That's quite a difference, look it up kids.
Sho wanted to free her from that place but someone sent killers after him so he had to flee himself and left Manami behind D,: *crai*
I'm not sure whether he had the chance to say goodbye, so I thought maybe she's wondering about why he doesn't visit her anymore and miss him.

The background is also a little symbolic here, the cranes have become some kind of symbol for Sho, and since I couldn't put anything reminding her of him in the foreground anymore, I tried to put the cranes on the paper wall in the background so it LOOKS like she's looking at them. *SMRT* 8D

very awesome job! I really like the way you did the highlights/folds on the dress and that lovely painting the bg.

Oh, I love this. I'm viewing it on the Wii right now which often wonks up the colors, but even here it looks great. Your style actually lends itself beautifully to Japanese/Japanesque stuff--something about your faces reminds me of the old woodblock prints of geishas and kabuki actors.

I can't TELL you how much I adore her hair, the background screen paintings, and the colorrrrrs. You've got such a graceful touch. *_*

Thank you! Graceful? :0 now that's a compliment!

Umm, do my faces always look like what you say? o_O That would come quite as a surprise - I only tried to make Manami here look sorta asian.

Thank you so much :) At first, I wanted the background to be lighter, like a buttery yellow but it turned out much darker... now I'm not sure whether that's better or not! What do you think?

Thanks! I'm a bit surprised as I think the things you mentioned are among the most chaotic things of this painting but I'm glad you like it! :)
